Behind the Scenes: Self organized spontaneous corners

For me, conferences where the Chaos Computer Club is involved is more about meeting people and discovering the small self-organized things rather than the lectures and speeches. These I can watch later from the recordings. At Bits and Bäume I found one self organized corner, and I wish there would be more of that.

In the chill-area at the building for mathematics, a tea corner popped up on day two. A middle-aged participant started to build up a cosy tea corner with plants, teapots, tea mugs, decoration and a large selection of teas. You could recognize her place with the quilt made from T-Shirts from former Hacker-Conferences:

Every person coming around or rushing by was personally invited to stay a moment for a cup of tea. There was no donation-box or cash-box — it was free of charge.

The initiative for this tearoom came from Vesna Manojlović. She intends to connect to new people with interesting biographies and stories and invited the new acquaintances to join the RIPE Community.

She is from Serbia and works as Senior Community Builder at “Réseaux IP Européens Network Coordination Centre” (RIPE NCC) in Amsterdam.

Ripe NCC is an “independent, not-for-profit membership organization that supports the infrastructure of the Internet through technical coordination in their service region. Their most prominent activity is to act as the Regional Internet Registry (RIR) providing global Internet resources and related services (IPv4, IPv6 and AS Number resources) to members in their service region.” Source: ripe.net

Behind the Scenes: Spontan selbstorganisierte Orte der Begegnung

Für mich geht es bei Konferenzen, an denen der Chaos Computer Club beteiligt ist, eher darum, Menschen zu treffen und die kleinen selbstorganisierten Dinge zu entdecken, als um die Vorträge und Reden. Diese kann ich mir später auf den Aufzeichnungen ansehen. Bei "Bits & Bäume" habe ich eine selbstorganisierte Ecke gefunden, und ich wünschte, es gäbe mehr davon.

In der Chill-Area im Mathematik-Gebäude ist am zweiten Tag eine Tee-Ecke entstanden. Eine Teilnehmerin begann, eine gemütliche Teeecke mit Pflanzen, Teekannen, Teetassen, Dekoration und einer großen Auswahl an Teesorten einzurichten. Man konnte ihren Platz an der Steppdecke erkennen, die aus T-Shirts früherer Hacker-Konferenzen gefertigt war.

Wer vorbeikam oder vorbeihuschte, wurde persönlich eingeladen, einen Moment auf eine Tasse Tee zu verweilen. Es gab keine Spendendose oder Kasse — es war kostenlos.

Die Initiative für diese Teestube kam von Vesna Manojlović. Sie möchte neue Menschen mit interessanten Biografien und Geschichten kennenlernen und lud die neuen Bekannten ein, sich die RIPE-Gemeinschaft anzusehen.
